‘Akbar Ki Family Tree Padh Li, Ab Chhatrapti Sambhaji Maharaj…’ Shardul Pandit Hails Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava

Former Bigg Boss 14 contestant, actor and radio jockey, Shardul Pandit often takes to his official social media handles to share his views on the ongoing controversies or trending topics in the entertainment industry. He recently went to watch Laxman Utekar directorial, Vicky Kaushal starrer Chhaava, a film based on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. Taking to his official handle, he wondered why our history textbooks didn’t include the contributions of Maratha warriors.

Opening up about the same in a video, he shared it on Instagram. He went on to question why even Bollywood didn’t highlight the bravery of Maratha warriors like Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Pandit also pointed out how, now that the makers of Chhaava have made the film, some YouTubers are linking it to political agendas, asking why the movie needed to be made in recent times. He went on to urge his followers to watch the film with their family and kids, after hailing the makers for their attempt.

The 39-year-old content creator also conveyed the same message through his caption. Questioning why stories of such legendary figures were not adequately covered in school textbooks, he wrote, “I saw Chhaava yesterday and couldn’t help but ask my friend, ‘Ye sab humne kyu nahi padha?’ Why do I remember everyone but don’t have a clue about the contribution of the great Maratha warriors? Why haven’t I been gloating in pride over a hero like Sambhaji or Shivaji?”

He went on to criticise the Indian film industry for shying away from making movies on the valour and legacy of the Marathas to the big screens. He went on to question why such stories were omitted from school books. Furthering his point, Shardul expressed how textbooks covered the family lineage Mughal emperors like Akbar and Babbar, but didn’t focus on the guerrilla warfare tactics used by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj.

Praising the makers of Chhaava for making an accurate and impactful film on the Maratha legacy, he added, “And now when @maddockfilms @laxman.utekar and @vickykaushal09 have made a very accurate film, I see certain top YouTubers making videos about linking it to politics and questioning why this film is made now.”

“Please take your kids and go watch Chhaava, as we all have done a gross injustice to this glorious Maratha Sher #ChatrapatiSambhajiMaharaj by not celebrating him enough in our history,” Shardul Pandit concluded his Instagram post.

Chhaava is adapted from Shivaji Sawant’s Marathi novel of the same name, it is based on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. While Vicky Kaushal essays the titular role, Rashmika Mandanna is seen as Maharani Yesubai Bhonsle and Akshaye Khanna essays the role of Mughal Shahenshah Aurangzeb.
