New Delhi, September 10 – British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, accompanied by his wife Akshata Murthy, began his Sunday morning with a special visit to the famous Akshardham Temple in India. This spiritual visit was a part of his schedule during the G20 Summit, highlighting the importance of cultural and spiritual exchanges in international relations.

Proud of His Hindu Heritage

In spite of the drizzle, Prime Minister Sunak and his wife arrived at the Akshardham Temple to participate in its sacred traditions, demonstrating their deep respect for India’s spiritual heritage.

During his visit, Prime Minister Sunak proudly acknowledged his Hindu heritage, saying, “I’m a proud Hindu.” This sentiment was echoed by Jyotindra Dave, the temple’s director, who noted the Prime Minister’s sincere reverence during their visit.

More Than Just Politics at Akshardham Temple

Dave emphasized that Prime Minister Sunak’s respect for the temple was genuine and not just a political gesture. Despite their busy schedule, the couple actively engaged in the prayers with sincerity and humility, displaying their true devotion.

Strict security measures were put in place to ensure the safety of the temple and its surroundings during the visit. The area had already been secured due to preparations for the G20 Summit, and additional security personnel were deployed during Prime Minister Sunak’s visit.

High-Level Talks with Prime Minister Modi

Before attending the G20 Summit, Prime Minister Sunak held discussions with India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi. These talks centered on strengthening trade relations and promoting investments between the United Kingdom and India.

Following their meeting, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to social media to share his thoughts. He posted photographs of their interaction and expressed his contentment with the productive discussions held. He underscored the significance of the collaboration between India and Britain for the betterment of the global community.

Upcoming Talks on UK-India Free Trade Agreement (FTA)

The UK and India have been actively negotiating the UK-India Free Trade Agreement (FTA) since 2022. The 12th round of negotiations occurred from August 8 to 31, with both nations working to enhance trade and economic cooperation. The 13th round of discussions is scheduled for September.
