Indian Man Breaks World Record By Building Smallest Washing Machine; The Internet Has Questions

8

Sebin Saji, an engineering student from Kanjirapally in Kottayam, Kerala, made it to the Guinness World Records by building the smallest functional washing machine that is merely 1.28 in x 1.32 in x 1.52 in (32.5 x 33.6 x 38.7 mm). The record was made on April 19, 2024. The miniature washing machine was built using digital calipers to measure. In his demo, Sebin showed how this tiny washing machine can spin, rinse, and wash, thus running a full wash cycle to qualify for the record. The Guinness World Records claims that the washing machine is tinier than the Tamagotchi – the egg-shaped handheld digital pet that first emerged in Japan in the late 90s. The machine by Sebin weighs about 25 grams. His academic institution, Amal Jyothi College of Engineering, took to social media and congratulated the lad on receiving the Guinness World Records certificate in August. Sebin is in the third year of Electronics and Communication Engineering at the college.

While a remarkable achievement, the Internet decided to troll the enterprising inventive lad.

So why even publish them? It is important to document constructive criticisms and also unwarranted hatred by armchair innovators on social media who are up to no good. More power to Sebin for creating a world record. More to come, mone.
