Ex-caretaker Balochistan CM Humayun Marri passes away

QUETTA: Former caretaker chief minister of Balochistan Mir Humayun Khan Marri passed away on Thursday. He was around 72.

Mr Marri was a senior political and tribal leader who entered politics in the mid-70s. He was the son-in-law of Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti.

He was elected a member of the Balochistan Assembly twice from Kohlu.

He was first elected a member of Balochistan Assembly in non-party-based elections in 1985 and served as the finance minister in the late Jam Ghulam Qadir Khan’s government.

He was appointed Balochistan’s caretaker chief minister in 1990 when president Ghulam Ishaq Khan dissolved assemblies.

Mr Mari joined Jamhoori Watan Party (JWP) of Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti after the dissolution of assemblies in 1990.

He was also elected a member of Senate on the ticket of JWP and later elected as deputy chairman of the Senate and served three years. Hundreds of people including tribal and political leaders and other people attended his funeral prayers.

Later, he was buried in the Hazar Ganji graveyard.
