G20 leaders adopt Delhi Declaration, committing to address the Ukraine conflict, climate change, food security, and other global challenges.

New Delhi, India (September 10, 2023) – The G20 leaders have unanimously embraced the Delhi Declaration, a comprehensive roadmap outlining their shared priorities for tackling the world’s most pressing challenges.

The adoption of the declaration marked the culmination of the G20 Summit hosted by India in New Delhi. The event brought together the leaders of the world’s 20 largest economies, along with representatives from international institutions including the United Nations and the World Bank.

The Delhi Declaration encompasses an extensive array of critical subjects, spanning from the conflict in Ukraine to climate change, food security, digital transformation, global health, anti-corruption measures, women’s empowerment, infrastructure development, and the facilitation of international trade and investment.

On War in Ukraine, the G20 leaders unequivocally condemned the violence and called for an immediate cessation of hostilities. Expressing deep concern about the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, they committed to extending aid to the affected populace.

On Climate Change, the G20 reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to the Paris Agreement and pledged to expedite the transition towards clean and sustainable energy sources. A monumental pledge of $100 billion per annum was made to bolster developing nations in their pursuit of climate action initiatives.

Addressing Global Food Security Challenges, the G20 leaders voiced their apprehensions regarding the burgeoning worldwide food crisis and vowed to take effective measures to alleviate it. They additionally called for the removal of export restrictions on food and fertilizers.

On Digital Transformation, the G20 leaders acknowledged the remarkable progress made in recent years and pledged to ensure its equitable benefits for all. Responsible usage of artificial intelligence was at the forefront of their commitment.

On Global Health, the G20 leaders called for bolstered international health cooperation and expressed their unwavering support for the World Health Organization. Their commitment also extended to substantial investments in research and development for novel vaccines and treatments.

Against Corruption, the G20 leaders collectively agreed to intensify their efforts and reinforce the enforcement of anti-corruption legislation.

Focusing on Women’s Empowerment, the G20 leaders committed to empowering women and girls while striving to close gender gaps across various sectors.

Regarding Infrastructure Development, the G20 leaders urged increased investments in this critical sector and committed to collaborative efforts aimed at enhancing global connectivity.

On Trade and Investment, the G20 leaders reiterated their dedication to fostering free trade and investment. They further pledged to reduce barriers that impede the free flow of goods and services.

The next summit point for G20 leaders is slated for Brazil in 2024, where they will assess the progress made in realizing the commitments outlined in the Delhi Declaration.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi remarked, “The Delhi Declaration is a historic document that outlines the G20’s collective focus on addressing global challenges. It exemplifies India’s strong leadership and its commitment to global cooperation.”

US President Joe Biden emphasized, “The G20 bears a responsibility to take concrete actions on the most urgent global issues. The Delhi Declaration is a commendable start, but we must redouble our efforts to fulfill our commitments.”

French President Emmanuel Macron stated, “The G20 must collaborate to address the global food crisis. We must also intensify our efforts in combating climate change and promoting sustainable development.”
