The rumors began when Times Now posted about her rumored return on Instagram. It wasn’t long before Smriti herself decided to comment directly, clarifying the situation by calling the reports false. The original buzz suggested that she would appear in a cameo role opposite Rupali Ganguly in Anupamaa, but with her clear denial, those hopes were dashed.
Anupamaa, which recently took a dramatic 15-year leap, has seen several of its original cast members exit the show, making the timing of the rumor seem plausible. Among those who left were actors like Sudhanshu Pandey, Madalsa Sharma, and Nidhi Shah, making way for a potential reshuffling of characters. However, Smriti Irani isn’t on that list of new entrants.
This would have been Smriti’s first television role since Maniben.com, a comedy-drama that aired in 2009. Following that, she moved away from the small screen, diving deep into a political career with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Since her transition, Smriti has held numerous significant portfolios, including being India’s Minister of Human Resource Development and later, the Minister of Women and Child Development and Minister of Minority Affairs, making a historic mark as the first non-Muslim to hold the latter position.
