Kawasaki KLX230 revealed in India ahead of launch

Kawasaki has officially unveiled the KLX230, the highly anticipated dual-sport motorcycle, which will make its debut in December 2024 and the deliveries are expected to begin from January 2025. The motorcycle is likely to be competitively priced since it will be manufactured locally by the Japanese company in India. Kawasaki has commenced bookings for the KLX230 with a minimum amount of Rs 5,000.

The KLX230 is powered by a 233cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that produces 17.9 bhp at 8,000 rpm and 18.3 Nm of torque at 6,400 rpm. It is paired with a 6-speed gearbox. The KLX230 will not have direct competition as it will be priced between the Hero Xpulse 200 4V and the KTM Adventure 250.

The Hero motorcycle gets a 199.6cc oil-cooled single-cylinder engine with 19 bhp at 8,500 rpm and 17.35 Nm at 6,500 rpm. The more powerful KTM has a 248.76cc liquid-cooled single cylinder with an output of 29.6 bhp at 9,000 rpm and 24 Nm at 7,500 rpm. 

Being a dirt bike, the KLX230 get 37mm telescopic front forks with a long wheel travel of 240 mm. The rear suspension is a preload-adjustable mono-shock with 250mm travel. With a wheel combination of a 21-inch front and an 18-inch at the rear, it is equipped with a 265mm disc brake in front and a 220 mm rear disc. Made for serious off-roading, the Kawasaki motorcycle has a tall ground clearance of 265 mm and a saddle height of 880 mm. For better manoeuvrability, the KLX230 weighs only 139 kg. 

The KLX230 comes with dual-purpose ABS that can be switched for on-road and off-road use. The front and rear brake ABS can also be disabled for off-road riding with a switch on the left handle bar. The digital instrument LCD panel house a speedometer, odometer, dual trip meters, fuel gauge, clock, smartphone call and mail notices and a Bluetooth indicator. 

With smart features via the mobile phone, the KLX230’s battery voltage can be viewed, and the Riding Log includes GPS route and vehicle running information. With the Rideology app, customers can connect with other like-minded riders. There is also a Maintenance Log like a history of refuelling, lubrication, oil changes, consumable parts replacement, and periodic inspections that can be managed.
