One of the newest SUVs in the sub-4-metre segment is the Mahindra XUV 3X0, which is much more than just the Mahindra XUV300 facelift. The SUV has seen major changes to almost every aspect, from design to features. That said, there will soon be a new competitor—the Skoda Kylaq.

The Skoda Kylaq will be the carmaker’s first product offering in the segment, ready to take on competition from other carmakers as well, such as Hyundai, Kia, Tata, and Maruti Suzuki. Let’s see how the upcoming Skoda Kylaq compares against the Mahindra XUV 3X0 in terms of engine specifications.

The Skoda Kylaq will be offered with a single engine option — a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol unit mated to a manual or an automatic torque converter gearbox. The Mahindra XUV 3X0, on the other hand, is offered with a choice of two petrol engines and a diesel unit. For comparison sake, we take a look at the petrol engines only.

On paper, the Kylaq’s 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine is more powerful than the XUV 3X0’s base offering, while the latter offers more torque. However, the TGDi engine in the XUV 3X0 makes more power than the Kylaq, while also making more torque.
