Taylor Fritz hit two big milestones last week, not only becoming the first American to reach the final of the ATP Finals since James Blake in 2006, but subsequently rising to a new career-high ranking of No. 4, which made him the first American man to be ranked in the Top 4 since Andy Roddick in 2007.
And today, he hits another two big milestones after a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Alex de Minaur during the United States’ quarterfinal tie against Australia at the Davis Cup Finals.
First of all, it’s the 200th hard-court win of his career.
He’s the fourth man born in 1997 or later to reach that number, after Alexander Zverev, Andrey Rublev and Stefanos Tsitsipas, and the first American man born in 1990 or later to do it.
MEN BORN IN 1990 OR LATER WITH 200+ HARDCOURT WINS (tour-level):
309: Grigor Dimitrov [born in 1991]
294: Daniil Medvedev [born in 1996]
273: Alexander Zverev [born in 1997]
264: Milos Raonic [born in 1990]
238: Andrey Rublev [born in 1997]
223: David Goffin [born in 1990]
207: Stefanos Tsitsipas [born in 1998]
200: Taylor Fritz [born in 1997]
Second of all, it’s the 30th Top 10 win of his career.
He’s the fifth man born in 1997 or later to reach that number, after Zverev, Jannik Sinner, Tsitsipas and Carlos Alcaraz, and, again, the first American man born in 1990 or later to do it.
MEN BORN IN 1990 OR LATER WITH 30+ TOP 10 WINS:
54: Alexander Zverev [born in 1997]
47: Daniil Medvedev [born in 1996]
43: Grigor Dimitrov [born in 1991]
39: Jannik Sinner [born in 2001]
35: Stefanos Tsitsipas [born in 1998]
35: Carlos Alcaraz [born in 2003]
32: Dominic Thiem [born in 1993]
31: Milos Raonic [born in 1990]
30: Taylor Fritz [born in 1997]
With Thanasi Kokkinakis defeating Ben Shelton in the first singles rubber of the day, 6-1, 4-6, 7-6 (14), Fritz’s win over De Minaur tied the tie up at 1-all, sending it to a deciding doubles rubber.
