Comedian and content creator Tanmay Bhat became the latest victim of a social media hack when his X account was taken over by cybercriminals. On Monday, a suspicious post appeared on his profile, announcing the launch of a fake memecoin tied to Solana, a well-known cryptocurrency.

“I love memes and Solana so I figured it was time for me to drop my own coin. Dev supply will be locked momentarily, I will be using YouTube revenue from streams and videos to support the coin and implementing it into my content,” the now deleted post read.

Bhat quickly responded via Instagram, urging his followers to steer clear of any links shared on his X account. “My Twitter has been hacked. Please donтАЩt click on any links. Working to fix it,” he wrote in a story.

This incident is far from isolated. Over the past few years, hackers have repeatedly hijacked the social media accounts of celebrities and world leaders to push cryptocurrency frauds. In 2021, Prime Minister Narendra ModiтАЩs X account was breached, with hackers posting a false claim that India had adopted Bitcoin as legal tender and would distribute it to citizens.

Similarly, in July 2020, a massive Twitter breach saw the accounts of Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Elon Musk, Bill Gates, Kanye West, and Kim Kardashian compromised. That attack promoted a Bitcoin scam promising to double any funds sent by their followers.
