It was a big evening for Jennie—the singer was out at Billboard’s Women in Music event and collecting her Global Force Award. So of course, she had to pull out her best beauty trick–the simple swipe of red lipstick.
The singer walked the—powder blue, not red—carpet for the evening’s affairs, wearing a strapless, sweetheart-necklined, form-fitting dress by Zuhair Murad in a fiery red tone with small crystal bead adornments. She also wore chunky platform black heels, but kept the rest of her accessories minimal—sans bag (where did she hide her lippie for touch-ups?), but with a gold chain and ruby pendant necklace Uniform Object, a delicate gold bracelet, and select chunky gold rings. Ever the lover of an ornate set, her nails were an elevated, gilded twist on a French manicure, with thick gold textured bands on the tips. Her long black hair was worn loose, straight, and sleek.
The rest of Jennie’s glam was kept minimal too—her signature glass skin with a hint of rosy blush to be more of an all-over flush, and a swipe of black eyeliner. The red lipstick was applied with a similarly toned lipliner to provide serious precision across her dramatic cupid’s bow. Lots of big smiles and laughs on the carpet showed the expert lip at work.
Jennie was on the ‘red lip theory’ long before the rest of us, and knows exactly the deep and sumptuous red that suits her complexion. Basically—your brain gets captivated by the pop of red from your lipstick, and ignores the wider details on your face like spots or texture (not that Jennie looks like she has any of that to worry about). But for the rest of us, with a swipe of red, you can leave the rest of your skin totally bare, and still look like you’ve done a full look. “It stimulates the strongest response [compared to] any other color,” noted Alexis Androulakis of the Lipstick Lesbians in what became a viral TikTok clip. It’s a theory that originates from legendary makeup artist Lisa Eldridge’s book Face Paint: The Story of Makeup. Is Jennie a student?
Last year, the Ruby and Blackpink singer appeared in a campaign for K-beauty brand HERA, wearing its satiny, matte ‘Seoul Red’ shade for the Rouge Classy lipstick.
She posed on the carpet and inside the venue with other awardees and presenters like Tyla, Gracie Abrams, Kali Uchis, and Doechii. A winning evening for the girls, with winning glam to match.
