In a dominating display of skill and teamwork, India secured an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match T20 series against Ireland with a resounding 33-run victory in the second T20 International at The Village, Dublin on Sunday.
Opting to bat first after winning the toss, India showcased their batting depth and aggressive intent. The team posted a formidable total of 185/5 in their 20 overs, thanks to standout contributions from vice-captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, who played a pivotal role with his innings of 58 off 43 balls. Gaikwad’s partnership with Sanju Samson, who scored 40 off 26 deliveries, proved crucial in stabilizing the innings after an early wobble.
Additionally, Rinku Singh’s explosive cameo of 38 off 21 balls, coupled with Shivam Dube’s unbeaten 22 off 16 balls, ensured India finished strong with a flurry of boundaries in the final two overs.
In reply, Ireland faced a daunting task as they aimed to chase down India’s target. However, their hopes were quickly dashed by a determined Indian bowling attack. Prasidh Krishna struck early, delivering two crucial blows in his opening over, while Ravi Bishnoi added to Ireland’s woes with another wicket during the powerplay.
Andrew Balbirnie’s valiant effort of 72 off 51 balls stood out amidst the struggle, but he lacked substantial support from the rest of the Irish batting lineup.
India’s bowlers maintained consistent pressure throughout the innings, led by the dynamic Jasprit Bumrah, who finished with figures of 2/15.
Krishna and Bishnoi, the two emerging stars of the Indian bowling unit, also contributed effectively, each claiming two wickets. The trio’s collective effort restricted Ireland to 152/8 in their allotted 20 overs.
India has sealed the T20 series against Ireland with a game to spare. As the series heads into the third T20 International, Ireland faces an uphill battle to salvage a win against the formidable Indian side. Meanwhile, India will be eager to continue their winning momentum and maintain their stronghold in the format.
