2025 Mercedes-Benz AMG G 63 launched in India: What’s new?

Mercedes-Benz has reintroduced an updated AMG G 63 in India. Priced at Rs 3.60 crore (ex-showroom), the new AMG G 63 sits on top of G-Wagon range and comes at Rs 1.05 crore over the base G-Class 400d. Prior to this, the German marque also introduced a limited-run G-Class AMG G 63 Grand Edition at a sticker price of Rs 4.0 crore (ex-showroom).

The luxury carmaker has started accepting bookings for the third quarter of 2025 from today. Mercedes claims it has already received over 120 bookings for the burly luxury SUV even before its launch which is expected to take place in the coming months. In the latest iteration, the new G-Class G 63 gets mechanical and functional upgrades over the previous model.

Powering the 2025 G-Class AMG G 63 is the same bi-turbo 4.0L V8 engine, with 48V Mild Hybrid Technology that delivers 590 bhp and a peak torque of 850 Nm with the provision of an additional boost of 20 horses. This unit is paired with a 9-speed torque converter automatic gearbox which sends power to all four wheels via the AMG Performance 4MATIC setup. 

The SUV also comes equipped with a low-range transfer case and locking differentials for superior off-road performance. Speaking of performance, the updated AMG G 63 does a 0 to 100 kmph in just 4.3 seconds while top speed is electronically limited to 240 kmph. In the latest iteration, the AMG G 63 now gets a Race Start function which allows quicker off-the-line launch.

While visually the AMG G-Class remains unchanged, it gets a few subtle additions inside the cabin. For instance, it now gets a new off-road cockpit that provides an overview of essential information for off-road driving in both the driver and central multimedia displays, including vehicle positioning, compass, altitude, steering angle, tire pressure, and temperature, as well as the status of the differential locks. The “Transparent Hood” function can be selected via the off-road menu.

Rest of the equipment remains unchanged. The AMG G 63 boasts of a twin-screen setup featuring a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment embedded with Mercedes’ latest MBUX system. Other novel features include smartphone integration via Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, USB-C ports, ambient lighting, an 18-speaker Burmester 3D surround sound system, etc.

The G 63 also benefits from safety features such as active brake assist, lane-keeping assist, and 360-degree camera systems. Being an AMG, the G 63 comes with the MANUFAKTUR range that offers exclusive paint colours and interior elements like spare wheel rings, seat trims, decorative stitching, and more. Customers can choose from 31 unique upholstery options and 29 paint options.
