Google To Introduce AI-Powered Personal News Feed; Here’s How It Works

3

Google has just launched a new feature called “Daily Listen”, aiming to offer users a personalized and easy way to stay up-to-date with the world’s most important news. Unlike traditional news podcasts, which cater to a broad audience, Daily Listen uses AI to tailor news updates to each listener’s specific interests, making it feel more like a personal news briefing rather than just a general update.

How Does “Daily Listen” Work?

At its core, Daily Listen is an experiment that uses Google’s advanced AI to curate a daily audio digest based on your individual preferences. By analyzing your search history and activity on platforms like Google Discover, it generates a short, five-minute audio episode summarizing the news and stories that matter most to you. It’s designed to save you time by focusing on relevant content, cutting through the noise of irrelevant headlines, and delivering a quick overview of what’s happening around the world.

For anyone who already listens to news podcasts or watches broadcasts, Daily Listen offers a refreshing change. Instead of playing generic news updates, it provides customized content that aligns with your personal interests, making it easier to stay informed without feeling overwhelmed. Each episode is concise, usually around five minutes long—perfect for a quick listen while you’re on the go.

How to Access “Daily Listen”

Currently, Daily Listen is available to Android and iPhone users in the U.S., with plans for broader availability in the future. To get started, you need to join the Search Labs experiment. Once activated, it may take up to a day for the first episode to be created.

To access the feature, open the Google app on your smartphone and look for the “Space” carousel beneath the search bar. You’ll find the “Daily Listen” card there—tap on it, and the full-screen audio player will launch. The player not only lets you listen to your news digest, but it also provides a text transcript and playback controls, allowing you to pause, rewind, or skip as needed.

Personalization and User Feedback

One of the standout features of Daily Listen is its integration with Google’s Gemini AI model, which makes it highly adaptable. The more you listen, the better the AI gets at understanding what you enjoy or find interesting. You can also give feedback on the episodes, further fine-tuning the experience. Plus, if something catches your interest, you can dive deeper by exploring related stories or searching for more details directly within the player.

A Step Towards More Engaging Content

Daily Listen isn’t Google’s only venture into personalized audio. Earlier, Google introduced NotebookLM’s “Audio Overview”, which allows users to turn documents and presentations into engaging audio summaries. While Daily Listen focuses on news, both features share the same goal: making information consumption more engaging and efficient by leveraging AI.

Daily Listen is a significant step in how we consume news in the digital age. By combining AI with personal interests, Google is shaping a future where staying informed is not only easier but also more relevant to each user’s unique world. Whether you’re catching up on world events or simply curious about topics that matter to you, Daily Listen could soon become a regular part of your daily routine.
