Meta has simplified the process of sharing Instagram profiles by introducing custom virtual business cards, enhancing the way users connect with new friends and acquaintances on the platform. Previously, users had to share their @username to exchange profiles, but now they can use Profile Cards, which feature profile details on one side and a scannable QR code on the other.
Instagram Profile Card: How it works
The Instagram Profile Card is double-sided, displaying a QR code that links to your profile and your username on one side, while the reverse showcases your profile picture, bio, links, and shared music. Users can customize the background color of the Profile Card or even create a unique background using their own images.
As for sharing, anyone can share your Profile Card using the “Share profile” button on your profile page. Instagram noted that users can use the card to connect with others instead of manually typing their username, making it a useful tool for potential collaborations or showcasing your profile to brands.
To share your Instagram Profile Card, navigate to your account and tap “Share Profile” in the profile banner. You can choose to download it to your device or share it directly on Instagram and other platforms like X, WhatsApp, Snapchat, and more.

Do note that to have the latest version of Instagram installed on your Android or iOS device to customize and share your Profile Card.

A recent survey found that over half of Gen Z respondents aspire to be influencers, highlighting the importance of tools like Profile Cards for self-promotion and personal branding. While Instagram has utilized QR codes for account sharing since 2018, the new Profile Cards offer a more comprehensive and versatile experience.
