Modi has arrived in America on a two-day visit. During his US sojourn, the Indian prime minister is likely to meet Elon Musk. There are speculations that the duo could discuss Starlink’s entry in India along with Tesla EVs.
Per anonymous sources cited by Reuters, the Indian premier and the Tesla billionaire will likely have a one-on-one meeting. The details of the meeting are not yet official. Starlink, the American satellite communication company, has been at odds with Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Jio over spectrum allocation. While the Indian firms are batting for auction, the Indian government is adamant it will assign the spectrum in line with Musk’s demands. The Starlink auction is currently under review. Meanwhile, there were rumors of Reliance lobbying the government over the $19 billion spectrum and security concerns over handing over the same to a foreign entity, thereby jeopardizing Indian sovereignty and security. Per Reuters sources, though, Musk is agreeable on giving the country assurance of storing the data locally.
Here’s how the internet reacted to the Modi-Musk meet. One user took a dig on the X/Twitter owner, stating, “He is good for nothing.” Several American users online implored Musk, “Tell him to crack down on phone scammers,” and “Please tell him no rapy techies please.” One user jibed, “In exchange for Adani indictments, India will now have Starlink.” Another quipped, “Tesla aegi ab India mein sasti hokar.”
