The world’s shortest and presumably the fastest flight is all the buzz on the internet right now. The Scotland based airline Loganair flies from Westray to Papa Westray, which takes about 90 seconds (or 1.5 minutes).

The fastest journey on this route has been recorded at a mere 53 seconds.

The two islands are located in northern Scotland. Flight routes between the Orkney islands first commenced in 1967. The distance covers a mere 1.7 miles between the two islands separated by the sea.

The flight is primarily used by students and teachers, as well as physicians and health professionals. Scholars visit Papa Westray island for research purposes on its 60 archeological sites, while the medical staff tend to the island’s 90 odd residents. The plane that ferries the passengers is single pilot and can accommodate a maximum of eight flyers onboard. Return fares from Westray to Papa Westray on Loganair cost £14.50 or about INR 1592 per person. Alternatively, commuters can avail a passenger ferry that runs both directions multiple times a day, covering about three-miles in approximately 25 minutes. Both the Orkney islands are renowned for bird watching, besides notable historic sites and a picturesque coastline.
