India hands over the G20 baton to Brazil, with a commitment to continue working together to build a better future for all.

New Delhi, India (September 10, 2023) – India has officially handed over the G20 presidency to Brazil. The handover ceremony took place at the conclusion of the G20 Summit in New Delhi.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi handed over the gavel of the presidency to Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. He congratulated Brazil on its presidency and wished it success in the year ahead.
“I am confident that Brazil will uphold the high standards set by India during its presidency,” Modi said. “I look forward to working with you to make the G20 a more effective forum for addressing the challenges facing the global economy.”

Lula da Silva thanked India for its leadership during its presidency. He said that Brazil is committed to working with all G20 members to promote global growth and prosperity.
“We will build on the progress made by India and focus on issues such as climate change, food security, and sustainable development,” Lula da Silva said. “We will also work to strengthen the G20’s role in global governance.”
The G20 is an international forum of 20 major economies. It is the premier forum for discussing and coordinating economic policy among the world’s largest economies.
India’s presidency of the G20 was marked by a number of significant achievements. These included the launch of the G20 Debt Service Suspension Initiative, which has helped to provide debt relief to developing countries, and the adoption of the G20 Roadmap for Sustainable Finance, which sets out a framework for mobilizing private capital for sustainable development.
Brazil will assume the G20 presidency on December 1, 2023.
