Baghpat: At least five lost their lives after a watchtower collapsed in Uttar Pradesh’s Baghpat district on Tuesday morning. The incident took place during the ‘Laddu Mahotsav’ organised by the Jain community in Baghpat’s Baraut city. According to reports, around 40 people also sustained injuries. Several people are feared trapped under debris.
After receiving the information, authorities rushed to the spot. A rescue operation is currently underway. Ambulances have been deployed at the collapse site. The injured were shifted to a hospital for treatment.

As per Baghpat District Magistrate Asmita Lal, out of the total injured, 20 have been discharged from the hospital. “There was a Jain community program in Baraut. A wooden structure collapsed here, injuring about 40 people. 20 people were sent home after treatment, 20 people are still undergoing treatment. 5 people have died,” Lal told reporters.
Baghpat DM’s Statement:
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister took cognizance of the incident. He directed the officials to immediately reach the spot and expedite the relief work. The UP CM also directed officials to provide proper treatment of the injured.
