Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP’s) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday refuted media reports claiming that he would contest from two seats in the upcoming Delhi Assembly Elections. During a press conference, the AAP chief said that he would contest from “only one seat”.
Kejriwal will be contesting from the New Delhi constituency for the fourth time. Recently, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders claimed that the former Delhi chief minister would contest from two seats. Kejriwal had won thrice in the past from this seat in 2013, 2014 and 2019.
In the 2025 assembly polls, the AAP will contest against BJP’s Parvesh Verma and Congress’s Sandeep Dikshit from the New Delhi seat.
On Wednesday, Verma claimed that Kejriwal would not contest from his traditional New Delhi constituency or might contest from two seats. Similar claims were reportedly made by BJP leader Amit Malviya.
The assembly election in Delhi are scheduled to take place in a single phase eon February 5. Votes will be counted on February 8 and on the same day the results will be declared.
Delhi will witness a fierce triangular contest between the AAP, the BJP and the Congress. The Kejriwal-led party will be eyeing to retain the power for the third consecutive time. Meanwhile, the saffron party is trying its best to form the government in Delhi.
The BJP is levelling “corruption” allegations against the former Delhi CM and the AAP, while the AAP is accusing the saffron party manipulating the voter list.
The Congress, who failed to open its account in the previous two polls, is also targeting Kejriwal and his party over the AAP’s welfare schemes and the alleged corruption.
